Store apples in the fridge to keep them fresh and maintain their nutritional value.
Remove apples from the fridge a few each day for eating if you prefer them at room temperature.
Place apple in a plastic bag in the fridge to help retain moistness and stop the apple shriveling.
Watch out! Apples produce a natural ethylene gas that will speed the ripening of other fruits like avocados or pears placed nearby.
Store apples away from direct sunlight, preferably in the fridge.

Buy your fruit from suppliers that return their produce to the cool store each night. Correct storage can delay and even halt nutrition decline.
Buy apples from a refrigerated display as apples ripen very quickly at room temperature.
Select in-season apples for optimum freshness.
Select apples that are firm and without bruises and blemishes.
Gently flick the apple near the stem to check its ripeness. A dull sounds means that it’s ripe, a hollow sound means it’s overripe.
The flesh of the apple should not give way to finger pressure.
Apples should have a fresh fruity fragrance, not musty.
Research suggests apples that are darker, redder and bluer will have a more antioxidant rich, nutritious peel.
